Sex Offender Specific Treatment: Integrating Latino Cultural Perspectives

Ingrid Diaz, PhD.

NJATSA Online TRAINING

Friday October 23, 2026

8:30am – 12:30pm

This presentation explores the integration of Latino cultural perspectives into evidence-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and the Risk-Need-Responsivity (RNR) model. Participants will examine the impact of cultural values such as familismo, respeto, and personalismo, as well as the influence of migration and acculturation experiences on identity, family dynamics, treatment engagement, and adaptation to intervention. Additional topics include stigma, shame, language considerations, and barriers to accessing and participating in treatment. Through clinical examples and practical strategies, attendees will learn how to incorporate cultural responsiveness while maintaining treatment integrity, victim safety, and offender accountability. This presentation is intended for clinicians, treatment providers, and criminal justice professionals working with Latino individuals in sex offender specific treatment settings.
