Megan’s Law Update
December 2, 2022
9 am to 2:30pm
Join us for a full day legal and forensic update on the Registration and Community Notification Laws (Megan’s Law). Deputy Public Defender Fletcher Duddy, Chief Counsel for the Special Hearings Unit, Office of the Public Defender, oversees the four regional offices in the Office of the Public Defender, providing representation to clients at tier classification hearings throughout the State. From 9:00 am to 12:00, he will provide an overview of the current state of the law, including a review of caselaw on registration, notification, removal from the registry, parole supervision for life and other issues which effect adult and juvenile registrants and parolees in New Jersey. Deputy Fletcher will provide an update of any statutory or regulatory changes that have been implemented, as well as any pertinent information on Federal and other state statutes. In addition, Deputy Fletcher will provide insights into the hearing process, to assist clinicians in preparing reports and testifying.
Dr. James Reynolds, PhD, forensic psychologist, will, from 1:00 to 2:30pm, share his expertise in client evaluations for Megan’s Law hearings and provide a practical guide for clinicians preparing evaluations for registrants.
