Family Reunification

Family reunification after sexual offenses is a delicate progression. This presentation on family reunification, post sexually problematic behaviors, will offer an overview on the guiding principles, as well as examining assumptions about the process. Emphasis will be placed on learning and exploring the steps taken by the victim and the perpetrator, as well as their respective treatment teams leading up to reunifying. Individual and familial strengths, risks, and needs associated with reunification after a sexually problematic event, and possible associated barriers, will be outlined. A framework on steps to navigate the roadmap, while identifying risks and needs in efforts to maximize/ensure family safety will also be provided. This training will address the often-undervalued importance of factoring cultural aspects in family systems/subsystems and the vitality of tailoring treatment needs and approaches. The essential strengths necessary to increase competency and successful reunification, maintaining attachment, and ultimately maximizing healthy functioning post reunification will be of significant discourse.

Training Goals and Objectives

1. Describe and discuss the reunification/clarification purpose and process.

2. Explain the purpose and efficacy of existing stipulations around reunification.
3. Demonstrate the ability to identify and explore unique familial systems’ needs.
4. Members will demonstrate how to explore and implement empathetically and with best practice.
