Static-99R Booster Session Description
This booster session is designed for current users of the Static-99R who have already completed training with a certified trainer. The training will provide a brief recap on the evolution of the Static-99R, an overview of the Static-99R items, and offer guidance on recent updates to the coding manual. Guidance on recommended risk communication based upon the nominal risk categories and desistance will also be provided. The session will conclude with scoring and discussion of case examples to enhance understanding of the scale developments.
Learning Objectives:
Participants will be able to identify the current guidance on appropriate use of the Static-99R with different ethnic groups and transgender persons.
- Participants will be able to define the nominal risk categories and how that influences risk communication.
- Participants will be able to identify the role of desistance and how the role of desistance impacts risk potential.
Katherine “Katie” Gotch, LPC, CCSOT, ATSA-F has worked in the field of sexual abuse prevention for over twenty years as a clinician, evaluator, trainer, researcher, and in the development of evidence-informed public policy. She currently maintains a private practice, Integrated Clinical & Correctional Services, which provides specialized clinical and consultation services related to individuals with sexual behavior problems and other forms of abusive/violent behavior. She frequently provides training to correctional agencies, clinicians, policy makers, and other community partners on sexual abuse specific assessment, management and treatment; static and dynamic risk; public policy; public/media engagement; and related topics. She has been a certified Static-99R/STABLE & ACUTE-2007 trainer for over fifteen years and recently obtained local certification as an ODARA trainer. She additionally has a lengthy history of public policy and board involvement, previously serving as the Public Policy Executive Board Member for ATSA, as a Board Member and Voluntary Executive Director for NPEIV, and as the Policy Advisor for OATSA.
